Last year, I had the idea to get my girl squad together for a session that would capture us being us. I began brainstorming the concept when I was contacted by a potential client to come to her girls' getaway weekend and snap some candid moments of them hanging out together. When I started thinking about it, I realized that- aside from pictures of my family- the pictures that are next in importance for me are of the friends that I do life with. So I texted in our group and essentially said, "hey, would you all be up for a photo session if I bring the wine and cake and help coordinate outfits?"
I had to twist their arms, but they finally agreed. Obviously.
But even the best laid plans can (and will) have a wrench thrown into them. The day of the shoot, I had to make a trip to Patient First for antibiotics, and one of our crew had to stay home due to a migraine. Life happens. Which is something we know all too well in this group. We've walked through divorces and job changes together, and rallied behind a devastating cancer diagnosis. There have been tears and what-ifs and the moments we've sat together saying nothing because no words could ever fit. There are things that have happened in our little tribe that shook us to our core- the kinds of things that you think happen to other people and not to the ones you love. But there've also been so many good things we've been able to celebrate together: brand new babies, milestones, lots of good food (and wine), and pee-in-your-pants laughing fits around someone's kitchen table.
It's all worth documenting.
So, allow me to introduce you to my squad (minus one dearly missed and loved member, Katie, who- for all intents and purposes- is the heart of this group. My photo skills simply aren't good enough to drop her into these pictures, as much as I wanted to be able to).
(And a little behind the scenes fun).
(How we REALLY are).
